Description
Joshua turns back to Hazor, the leading city of the northern kingdoms, and the city becomes the central symbol of judgment and fulfillment of the command given through Moses. The image is not one of graphic destruction but of a fortified mound-city overtaken by smoke and fire, while Joshua and Israel stand in sober obedience outside its gates. Hazor’s burning marks both the fall of proud power and Joshua’s complete faithfulness to the LORD’s command.
