Jonah 4 (vv. 1-4)

Jonah is deeply upset that Nineveh has been spared, and he pours out his anger before the LORD. He reminds God that this was exactly why he fled before, because he knew God was gracious, compassionate, and willing to relent. In bitterness and despair, Jonah asks to die, while the LORD's response comes not as visible form but as a probing question that exposes Jonah's heart: whether his anger is right.

요나는 니느웨가 용서받은 일로 크게 분노하며 여호와 앞에 자신의 감정을 쏟아 놓는다. 그는 하나님께서 은혜로우시고 긍휼이 많으시며 재앙을 내리기를 뜻돌이키시는 분이라는 것을 알았기에, 바로 그 이유 때문에 자신이 처음에 도망쳤다고 말한다. 쓰라림과 절망 속에서 요나는 죽기를 구하고, 여호와의 응답은 눈에 보이는 형상이 아니라 그의 마음을 드러내는 질문, 곧 그의 분노가 옳은가를 묻는 음성으로 임한다.
