Jonah 1 (vv. 11-15)

As the sea grows rougher, Jonah tells the sailors that the only way to save themselves is to throw him into the water. The men first struggle against the storm, rowing desperately toward land, but the waves only grow more violent. Finally, after crying out to the LORD for mercy and innocence, they lift Jonah and cast him into the sea. The act should not be portrayed graphically, but as a solemn, reluctant surrender under divine pressure. This is the turning point of the chapter, where human effort fails and obedience to God’s will brings immediate change.
