John 1 (vv. 1-5)

This opening scene visualizes the mystery of the eternal Word existing before creation, with divine light breaking into primordial darkness. The Word is with God and is God, and through him all things come into being. Life and light radiate outward into the unformed world, while the darkness remains unable to overpower that light.
