Job 24 (vv. 13-17)

Job describes those who rebel against the light and choose darkness as their element. As dusk falls, a murderer rises, a thief slips through shadows, and an adulterer veils his face, trusting that no eye will see him. By day such people hide themselves indoors, but at midnight they become active and confident, at home among terror. The scene presents moral corruption through the transition from twilight to deep night.

욥은 빛을 거역하고 어둠을 자신의 영역으로 삼는 자들을 묘사한다. 황혼이 내리면 살인자는 일어나고, 도둑은 그림자 속으로 스며들며, 간음하는 자는 아무도 보지 못하리라 생각하며 얼굴을 가린다. 낮에는 그런 자들이 집 안에 숨어 지내지만, 한밤중이 되면 오히려 활기를 띠며 공포 속에서 편안함을 느낀다. 이 장면은 황혼에서 깊은 밤으로 넘어가는 변화 속에서 도덕적 타락을 드러낸다.
