Job 16 (vv. 18-22)

From the depths of despair, Job lifts his appeal beyond the earth. He asks that his blood not be silenced and declares that even now his witness is in heaven and his advocate is on high. As tears stream from his eyes, he looks upward in hope that someone before God will plead for him like a true friend, even though he knows his years are few. The scene holds grief and hope together in a single upward cry.

절망의 깊은 곳에서 욥은 자신의 호소를 땅 너머로 들어 올린다. 그는 자신의 피가 묻히지 않기를 구하며, 지금도 하늘에 자신의 증인이 있고 높은 곳에 자신의 대언자가 있다고 선언한다. 눈물이 흐르는 가운데 그는 위를 바라보며, 누군가가 참된 친구처럼 하나님 앞에서 자신을 위해 변호해 주기를 바란다. 동시에 그는 자신의 남은 날이 많지 않다는 것도 알고 있다. 이 장면은 슬픔과 소망이 하나의 위를 향한 부르짖음 속에 함께 담겨 있다.
