Job 14 (vv. 18-22)

The chapter closes with a grand image of erosion and loss. A mountain slope crumbles, a great rock has shifted from its place, and rushing seasonal waters carve through the earth, washing away soil and stones. In the foreground, a grieving human figure sits alone, bent under the weight of mortality, separated from family and future. The scene captures Job’s final conclusion that just as water wears away stone, so human hope is consumed, and the dead know nothing of what becomes of their children.
