Job 1 (vv. 1-3)

The opening scene presents Job in the land of Uz as a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil. He stands as a respected patriarch surrounded by the visible signs of extraordinary blessing: vast flocks, herds, camels, donkeys, servants, and the broad lands under his care. The image should communicate both his moral dignity and his prominence as the greatest man among the people of the East.
