Jeremiah 8 (vv. 1-3)

The chapter opens with a shocking image of judgment: the graves of Judah’s kings, officials, priests, prophets, and ordinary people are opened, and their bones are laid out under the sun, moon, and stars. The heavenly bodies they once adored now shine coldly over their disgrace. The scene communicates total humiliation, covenant curse, and the futility of idolatry, while survivors in exile are left in such despair that death seems preferable to life.
