Jeremiah 7 (vv. 29-31)

The prophet calls for lament as Judah’s evil reaches its darkest expression: idols are set up in the house bearing God’s name, and the high place of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom becomes a place of fire and abomination. The image should avoid graphic violence, instead conveying horror through symbolic elements—an idol defiling sacred space, smoke rising from a distant valley altar, mourners in grief, and a sense that the covenant has been profoundly violated.
