Jeremiah 50 (vv. 1-3)

A public proclamation goes out among the nations that Babylon will fall. A banner is lifted high as messengers declare that Bel and Marduk, the proud gods of Babylon, will be shamed and terrified. From the north, an invading nation approaches, and the once-mighty land is marked for desolation so complete that both people and animals flee.

열방 가운데 바벨론의 멸망을 선포하는 공개적인 선언이 울려 퍼진다. 전령들이 높은 깃발을 세우고, 바벨론의 교만한 신들인 벨과 마르둑이 수치를 당하고 두려움에 사로잡힐 것이라고 외친다. 북쪽에서 침략하는 나라가 다가오고, 한때 강성하던 그 땅은 사람과 짐승이 모두 도망할 만큼 철저한 황폐를 향해 나아간다.
