Jeremiah 49 (vv. 28-33)

The judgment on Kedar and Hazor appears in the open desert, where a people living at ease without walls or gates are suddenly overwhelmed. Their black goat-hair tents, flocks, goods, and camels are being seized as cries of ‘Terror on every side!’ echo through the camp. Some flee toward rocky hiding places and caves, while the once-lively encampment begins to empty into desolation. The scene should emphasize vulnerability in the wide wilderness and the sudden collapse of pastoral security.

게달과 하솔에 대한 심판은 성문도 빗장도 없이 평안히 살던 백성이 광야 한복판에서 갑작스럽게 덮쳐지는 장면으로 나타난다. 검은 염소털 장막과 양 떼, 살림살이, 낙타들이 빼앗기고, ‘사방에 두려움이 있다!’라는 외침이 진영에 울려 퍼진다. 어떤 이들은 바위 은신처와 동굴을 향해 도망치고, 한때 생기 넘치던 유목 진영은 점점 텅 빈 황폐함으로 바뀌어 간다. 이 장면은 넓은 광야 속에서 드러나는 연약함과 목가적 안전이 갑자기 무너지는 순간을 강조해야 한다.
