Jeremiah 43 (vv. 7)

The Judean remnant finally enters Tahpanhes in Egypt, a foreign city of imperial power and unfamiliar security. The contrast is striking: refugees from shattered Judah stand before Egyptian walls, gateways, and administrative buildings. Though they have reached the place they hoped would protect them, the scene is overshadowed by the reality that they arrived there in disobedience to the LORD.

유다의 남은 자들은 마침내 이집트의 다바네스에 들어선다. 그곳은 낯선 안전과 제국의 권세가 느껴지는 외국 도시이다. 무너진 유다에서 온 피난민들이 이집트의 성벽과 성문, 관청 건물 앞에 서 있는 대조가 선명하다. 그들이 자신들을 지켜 줄 것이라 기대한 장소에 도착했지만, 그 장면 위에는 여호와를 거역한 채 그곳에 왔다는 사실이 무겁게 드리워져 있다.
