Jeremiah 42 (vv. 1-6)

The surviving leaders, soldiers, and common people of Judah gather before Jeremiah in humility and desperation. From the greatest to the least, they ask him to pray to the LORD for the small remnant that remains after catastrophe. Their words are solemn and earnest as they promise to obey whatever message God gives, whether favorable or unfavorable, revealing both their fear and their fragile hope.
