Trumpets are blown, signals are raised, and the people are told to gather quickly and flee into fortified cities because disaster is coming from the north. The invading threat is compared to a lion emerging from its lair, and fear spreads through every level of society. Sackcloth, lamentation, and panic replace ordinary life as kings, officials, priests, and prophets all lose heart before the approaching destruction.
