In the king’s winter apartment, Jehudi reads the scroll aloud while a fire burns in a brazier before Jehoiakim. As each section is read, the king coldly cuts off several columns with a scribe’s knife and throws them into the flames. Though some officials plead with him not to do it, he remains unmoved.
