Jeremiah 3 (vv. 1-3)

The chapter opens with a shocking image of covenant unfaithfulness portrayed as a woman who has pursued many lovers across the barren high places. She waits openly by the roadside like a desert wanderer, while the land itself bears the consequences of her sin: the skies are closed, the spring rains have failed, and the earth is cracked and dry.
