Description
Jeremiah receives from the LORD a symbolic cup filled with the wine of divine wrath and is commanded to make the nations drink. The scene represents Jerusalem, Egypt, Philistia, Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre, Sidon, Arabia, Elam, Media, and the kingdoms of the north, all subject to the same judgment. The visual power lies in the universality of the cup: no throne, city, or people can refuse it.
