Jeremiah 20 (vv. 7-9)

Jeremiah withdraws into a moment of raw confession before the LORD. He feels deceived, overpowered, mocked, and exhausted by the burden of proclaiming violence and destruction. Yet even when he resolves to remain silent, God’s word burns within him like fire shut up in his bones, making silence impossible. The scene visualizes the prophet’s inward torment and irresistible calling.
