Description
God describes the many forms of devastation that will fall upon Judah: the sword, scavenging dogs, birds of the air, and wild beasts. At the city gates, the people are winnowed like grain, and bereavement spreads through Jerusalem. Mothers are struck with terror, widows multiply, and even the mother of seven collapses in grief as her sun sets at midday. Rather than graphic violence, the image should portray ruin through ominous symbols, desolation, and the emotional collapse of the city.
