Jeremiah 10 (vv. 2-5)

Jeremiah exposes the emptiness of idol worship by describing a tree cut from the forest and shaped by a craftsman into an image. The finished idol is decorated with silver and gold and nailed in place so it will not fall, yet it remains helpless, unable to speak, walk, harm, or save. The scene captures the irony of humans fearing what they themselves have made.

예레미야는 숲에서 베어 낸 나무를 장인이 깎아 우상으로 만드는 모습을 통해 우상 숭배의 헛됨을 드러낸다. 완성된 우상은 은과 금으로 장식되고 넘어지지 않도록 못으로 고정되지만, 말하지도 걷지도 못하며 해치지도 구원하지도 못하는 무력한 존재일 뿐이다. 이 장면은 사람이 자기 손으로 만든 것을 두려워하는 아이러니를 보여 준다.
