James 5 (vv. 1-3)

A wealthy landowner stands in a storehouse filled with once-prized treasures that are now decaying. Fine garments hang in tatters, moth-eaten and neglected, while piles of gold and silver show unnatural corrosion. The man’s confidence collapses into dread as he realizes that the very wealth he hoarded has become a witness against him, and the atmosphere suggests approaching judgment.

한 부유한 지주가 한때 귀하게 여겼던 보물들로 가득한 창고에 서 있지만, 그 모든 것이 이제 썩어 가고 있다. 고운 옷들은 좀이 먹어 너덜너덜해졌고, 쌓아 둔 금과 은에는 비정상적인 부식이 번져 있다. 자신의 재물이 오히려 자신을 고발하는 증거가 되었음을 깨닫는 순간, 그의 자신감은 공포로 무너지고, 장면 전체에는 다가오는 심판의 분위기가 감돈다.
