Isaiah 9 (vv. 13-21)

Because the people do not return to the LORD, judgment spreads through the whole land like an uncontrollable fire. Misleading leaders and corrupted people are shown under the image of head and tail, palm branch and reed cut off together, while wickedness itself burns through briers, thorns, and forest thickets. The nation turns inward in hunger, confusion, and self-destruction, and over all of it remains the fearful sign of divine anger: an upraised hand suggested through storm, fire, and overwhelming presence rather than any direct human-like depiction.

백성이 여호와께 돌아오지 않으므로 심판은 통제할 수 없는 불처럼 온 땅에 퍼진다. 백성을 그릇 인도한 지도자들과 타락한 백성은 머리와 꼬리, 종려가지와 갈대가 함께 잘려 나가는 이미지로 나타난다. 동시에 악 자체가 찔레와 가시덤불과 숲을 태우는 불처럼 번져 간다. 나라는 굶주림과 혼란과 자기 파괴 속에서 스스로를 삼키고, 그 모든 위에는 여전히 두려운 하나님의 진노의 표징이 남아 있다. 그것은 직접적인 형상이 아니라 폭풍과 불과 압도적인 임재로 암시된다.
