Isaiah 9 (vv. 1-3)

A once-humiliated northern land begins to change as the gloom over Zebulun, Naphtali, and Galilee gives way to sudden radiance. People who had been walking in deep darkness now stop and turn toward a great light breaking over the landscape. The scene carries both relief and wonder: the road by the sea, the distant Jordan region, and villages in shadow are now touched by hope, and the people’s joy begins to rise like a harvest celebration.

한때 수치를 당했던 북방 땅이 변화되기 시작한다. 스불론과 납달리와 갈릴리를 덮고 있던 어둠이 갑작스러운 광채로 물러간다. 깊은 흑암 가운데 걷던 사람들이 걸음을 멈추고 땅 위로 비추는 큰 빛을 바라본다. 이 장면은 안도와 경이로움을 함께 담고 있다. 바닷길과 멀리 보이는 요단 지역, 그늘진 마을들이 이제 소망의 빛에 닿고, 백성의 기쁨은 추수의 잔치처럼 점점 차오른다.
