Isaiah 59 (vv. 1-3)

The scene opens with a powerful contrast: the LORD is fully able to save and hear, yet the people stand cut off because of their own sin. A crowd of Israelites stands in a dry courtyard, their hands lowered in shame, while a radiant but veiled divine light shines from beyond a darkened gap between heaven and earth. Their stained hands, deceitful lips, and guilty posture visually express that separation from God is not due to divine weakness, but human iniquity.

이 장면은 강한 대비로 시작된다. 여호와께서는 구원하시고 들으실 능력이 충분하시지만, 백성은 자신의 죄로 인해 단절되어 서 있다. 메마른 뜰에 선 이스라엘 백성 무리는 수치심 속에 손을 내리고 있고, 하늘과 땅 사이의 어두운 틈 너머로는 가려진 듯한 신적 빛이 비친다. 피로 물든 손, 거짓을 말한 입술, 죄책감에 눌린 자세는 하나님과의 분리가 하나님의 무능 때문이 아니라 인간의 죄악 때문임을 시각적으로 보여 준다.
