Isaiah 5 (vv. 18-24)

Isaiah’s woes gather into a powerful vision of moral inversion: people drag sin as if with ropes, mockingly daring God to act, call evil good and good evil, and pride themselves on their own wisdom. Judges take bribes, the guilty are acquitted, and the innocent are denied justice. The scene should symbolize corruption and twisted values through visual contrasts of light and darkness, bitter and sweet, and a court where truth has been overturned, while the threat of consuming fire looms over all.
