Isaiah 46 (vv. 3-4)

In sharp contrast to lifeless idols that must be carried, the God of Israel speaks tenderly to His people as the One who has upheld them since birth and will sustain them into old age. The image centers on a vulnerable remnant of Israel—children, adults, and elders with gray hair—gathered in hardship, while a radiant, unseen divine presence surrounds and upholds them. The scene communicates covenant care, endurance, and rescue across the whole span of life.

들려 다녀야 하는 무생물 우상들과 뚜렷이 대조되게, 이스라엘의 하나님은 자신의 백성에게 태어날 때부터 붙들어 주셨고 늙어 백발이 될 때까지 품어 주실 분으로 다정하게 말씀하신다. 장면의 중심에는 고난 가운데 모여 있는 이스라엘의 남은 자들, 곧 아이들과 어른들, 백발의 노인들이 있다. 그리고 보이지 않는 하나님의 빛나는 임재가 그들을 감싸고 붙들어 준다. 이 장면은 삶의 전 여정에 걸친 언약적 돌봄과 인내, 그리고 구원을 전한다.
