Isaiah 41 (vv. 1-4)

The chapter opens with a solemn cosmic courtroom scene. Distant coastlands and nations stand in fearful silence before the LORD, as if gathered at the edge of the world for judgment. At the center is the mystery of the one stirred up from the east, a victorious ruler moving swiftly across lands unknown to him, while kings fall like dust and chaff before his advance. Above and beyond the human drama, the LORD’s eternal authority is implied: the One who calls generations from the beginning and remains the same from first to last.

이 장은 엄숙한 우주적 법정 장면으로 시작된다. 먼 섬들과 여러 민족이 마치 세상 끝에 모인 듯 여호와 앞에서 두려운 침묵 속에 서 있다. 장면의 중심에는 동방에서 일으켜진 한 인물이 있는데, 그는 자신이 가보지 않은 땅을 신속히 지나며 승리한다. 왕들은 그의 앞에서 티끌과 겨처럼 흩어진다. 이 인간 역사의 배후에는 처음부터 세대를 부르시고 처음과 마지막까지 동일하신 여호와의 영원한 주권이 암시된다.
