Terror, pit, and snare close in on the inhabitants of the earth as judgment becomes inescapable. The floodgates of heaven open and the very foundations of the earth tremble. The world is pictured as broken, split apart, and swaying like a drunkard under the unbearable burden of guilt. This is cosmic instability made visible: creation itself convulses under rebellion, and the earth staggers toward collapse.
