Isaiah 17 (vv. 9-11)

The prophet exposes the futility of trusting in cultivated beauty while forgetting God. Strong cities stand abandoned and overgrown, while carefully planted foreign vines appear to bud quickly with promise. Yet the expected harvest disappears into grief, disease, and incurable pain. The scene contrasts human effort and apparent success with the emptiness that follows when the true Rock is forgotten.

예언자는 하나님을 잊은 채 아름답게 가꾼 것들을 의지하는 헛됨을 드러낸다. 견고하던 성읍은 버려져 덤불과 수풀에 덮이고, 정성껏 심은 이방의 포도나무는 금세 싹을 틔우며 희망을 주는 듯 보인다. 그러나 기대했던 수확은 질병과 치유할 수 없는 고통 속에서 사라진다. 이 장면은 인간의 노력과 겉보기 성공이 참된 반석이신 하나님을 잊을 때 얼마나 공허한지를 대조한다.
