Hosea 5 (vv. 14-15)

The final image is the most fearsome. The LORD declares that he will be like a lion to Ephraim and Judah, tearing and carrying off with none able to rescue. Yet the scene does not end only in terror. After judgment, he withdraws to his lair, waiting until the people bear their guilt and, in misery, begin to seek his face earnestly. The chapter closes in a tension between devastation and the possibility of repentance born from affliction.

마지막 장면은 가장 두렵다. 여호와께서는 자신이 에브라임과 유다에게 사자와 같아져 찢고 끌고 갈 것이며, 아무도 구해 낼 수 없다고 선언하신다. 그러나 이 장면은 공포로만 끝나지 않는다. 심판 후에 그는 자신의 굴로 물러나 백성이 죄책을 짊어지고 고난 속에서 간절히 그의 얼굴을 찾게 되기를 기다리신다. 이 장은 황폐함과 더불어 고통을 통해 태어나는 회개의 가능성 사이의 긴장 속에서 마무리된다.
