Description
Israel’s inner corruption is shown as a spiritual sickness that keeps the people from returning to their God. Their pride rises before them like a witness, and both Ephraim and Judah stumble together in sin. Even when they come with flocks and herds to seek the LORD through ritual sacrifice, they find only absence, because he has withdrawn from their unfaithfulness. Their feast days and offerings continue outwardly, but the scene is hollow, marked by estrangement and impending loss.
