Hosea 13 (vv. 1-2)

Craftsmen shape silver into idols while worshipers bow before calf-images, showing how a once-honored people have exchanged reverence for the living God for man-made objects.

이 장면은 에브라임이 한때 이스라엘 가운데서 말하면 사람들이 떨 만큼 권위를 지녔던 모습을 배경으로 시작하지만, 곧 바알 숭배로 인해 몰락하는 모습으로 전환된다. 장인들은 은을 녹여 우상을 만들고, 예배자들은 송아지 형상 앞에 몸을 굽힌다. 한때 존귀했던 백성이 살아 계신 하나님에 대한 경외를 버리고 사람이 만든 물건 앞에 엎드리는 비극을 보여 준다.
