Hosea 10 (vv. 1-2)

Israel is pictured as a flourishing vine heavy with fruit, spreading across a fertile hillside. Yet the abundance is misused: as the harvest grows, more altars and decorated sacred stones appear across the land. The scene captures the tragic contrast between outward prosperity and inward deceit, while the looming judgment of the LORD is suggested by darkening skies and the sense that these man-made shrines will soon be torn down.
