Description
After seventeen years in Egypt, Jacob nears death and calls Joseph to his bedside. He asks Joseph to place his hand under his thigh and swear in covenant faithfulness not to bury him in Egypt, but to carry his body back to the burial place of his fathers. Joseph swears to do so, and Israel, leaning on the top of his staff, bows in worship—an intimate closing image of faith, memory, and hope beyond death.
