Description
After their money and livestock are gone, the Egyptians return to Joseph with nothing left but their bodies and land. They ask to be bought in exchange for food and seed so they may live and the land not remain desolate. Joseph acquires the land for Pharaoh, relocates the people into servitude, and establishes a lasting law: when the harvest returns, one-fifth will belong to Pharaoh, while the people keep the rest for seed and food. Only the priests retain their land because they receive a fixed allotment from Pharaoh.

돈과 가축마저 다 사라진 뒤, 이집트 백성은 자신들의 몸과 땅 외에는 남은 것이 없는 상태로 다시 요셉에게 나온다. 그들은 살아남고 땅이 황폐하게 남지 않도록 양식과 씨앗을 대가로 자신들과 토지를 사 달라고 요청한다. 요셉은 바로를 위해 그 땅을 사들이고 백성을 예속 아래 두며, 수확이 돌아오면 오분의 일을 바로에게 바치고 나머지는 씨앗과 양식으로 가지라는 영구적인 법을 세운다. 다만 제사장들은 바로의 정기적인 몫을 받았기 때문에 그들의 땅은 그대로 남는다.
