Genesis 40 (vv. 16-19)

Encouraged by the favorable interpretation given to the cupbearer, the chief baker tells his own dream: three baskets of bread rest on his head, and birds eat from the top basket filled with baked goods for Pharaoh. Joseph gives the grim meaning with honesty and gravity: in three days Pharaoh will lift off the baker’s head, and the birds will consume his flesh. The moment is marked by dread and the weight of unavoidable truth.
