Genesis 29 (vv. 9-10)

While Jacob is still speaking, Rachel arrives with her father’s sheep, for she is a shepherd. The moment Jacob sees her and recognizes the flock of his uncle Laban, he goes to the well with unusual resolve. He rolls the great stone away from the mouth of the well and waters Laban’s sheep, turning an ordinary pastoral scene into a dramatic first meeting filled with energy and purpose.

야곱이 아직 말하고 있을 때, 라헬이 아버지의 양 떼를 이끌고 도착한다. 그녀는 직접 양을 치는 목자였다. 야곱은 라헬과 외삼촌 라반의 양 떼를 보자마자 결연하게 우물로 나아간다. 그는 우물 입구의 큰 돌을 굴려 치우고 라반의 양들에게 물을 먹인다. 평범한 목축의 장면이 힘과 목적이 가득한 극적인 첫 만남으로 바뀐다.
