Genesis 19 (vv. 30-38)

After leaving Zoar, Lot and his two daughters settle in a cave in the mountains, isolated and fearful. In that desolate refuge, the daughters devise a plan to preserve their family line, giving their father wine and lying with him on successive nights. The chapter closes not with triumph but with sorrowful ambiguity, as both daughters bear sons who become ancestors of future nations.
