Genesis 17 (vv. 23-27)

Without delay, Abraham obeys. On that very day he gathers Ishmael and every male in his household, whether born there or purchased, and carries out the covenant sign as commanded. The image should not be graphic; instead it should portray the gravity, pain, unity, and faith of a household submitting together to God’s word under Abraham’s leadership.

아브라함은 지체하지 않고 순종한다. 바로 그날 그는 이스마엘과 집에서 태어난 자나 돈으로 산 자를 막론하고 집안의 모든 남자를 모아 하나님이 명하신 대로 언약의 표징을 행한다. 이 장면은 직접적이거나 자극적으로 묘사되어서는 안 되며, 오히려 하나님의 말씀 아래 아브라함의 인도 속에서 한 공동체가 함께 복종하는 엄숙함과 고통, 연합, 믿음을 보여 주어야 한다.
