Genesis 16 (vv. 1-3)

After many childless years in Canaan, Sarai resolves to act according to the customs of the time. In a private, tense moment within the household encampment, she presents her Egyptian servant Hagar to Abram so that a child might be born through her. The scene is charged with resignation, cultural realism, and emotional complexity: Sarai appears determined yet wounded, Abram quiet and compliant, and Hagar caught between obedience and uncertainty.
