Genesis 10 (vv. 15-20)

This scene visualizes the land of Canaan and the many peoples descended from Canaan: Sidon, the Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, and others. Rather than focusing on one individual, the image should show a richly varied landscape of settlements stretching from coastal Sidon toward Gaza and inland toward the cities later associated with Sodom and Gomorrah. It is a portrait of a land filling with clans, fortified towns, trade routes, and distinct peoples establishing identity and territory.
