Galatians 4 (vv. 12-20)

Paul recalls how the Galatians once welcomed him tenderly despite his illness, even as one would receive an angel of God or Christ himself. Now he grieves that truth has strained their relationship, and he describes himself as being in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in them. The scene combines memory and present anguish: a weakened apostle once embraced with compassion, now burdened with pastoral sorrow and pleading love.

바울은 자신이 병들어 있었음에도 갈라디아인들이 마치 하나님의 천사나 그리스도 예수처럼 자신을 따뜻하게 영접했던 때를 회상한다. 그러나 이제 그는 진리를 말한 결과 관계가 멀어진 것을 슬퍼하며, 그들 안에 그리스도가 형성되기까지 다시 해산의 고통을 겪고 있다고 말한다. 이 장면은 기억과 현재의 고뇌를 함께 담아낸다. 한때는 연민으로 맞이받았던 연약한 사도가 이제는 목회적 슬픔과 간절한 사랑 속에서 호소하고 있다.
