Ezra 9 (vv. 7-15)

Ezra continues his prayer, recounting the nation’s long history of guilt, exile, humiliation, and the mercy that preserved a remnant and allowed the temple to be rebuilt under Persian favor. Yet this grace only makes the present sin more grievous, for the people have again broken the commands given through the prophets. The climax comes as Ezra stands spiritually exposed before the righteous God, confessing that no one can stand in His presence on the basis of innocence.

에스라는 기도를 이어 가며 조상들의 시대부터 이어진 민족의 큰 죄악과, 그로 인한 칼과 포로와 수치의 역사를 되새긴다. 동시에 그는 하나님께서 남은 자를 보존하시고 페르시아 왕들의 호의를 통해 성전을 다시 세우게 하신 자비를 고백한다. 그러나 바로 그 은혜 때문에 현재의 죄는 더욱 무겁게 다가오며, 백성은 선지자들을 통해 주신 명령을 또다시 어겼다. 장면의 절정에서 에스라는 의로우신 하나님 앞에 죄인으로 선 채, 누구도 자신의 의로 그분 앞에 설 수 없음을 자복한다.
