Ezra 8 (vv. 1-15)

Ezra assembles the family heads and the registered men who have come from Babylon at the canal flowing toward Ahava. Tents and travel bundles line the water's edge as leaders from many clans stand together in ordered groups. During the three-day encampment, Ezra carefully reviews the people and priests and realizes that no Levites are present among them, creating a moment of concern in the midst of an otherwise orderly departure.

에스라는 바빌론에서 올라온 족장들과 등록된 사람들을 아하와로 흐르는 운하 곁에 집결시킨다. 물가를 따라 장막과 여행 짐들이 늘어서 있고, 여러 가문의 지도자들이 질서 있게 무리를 이루어 서 있다. 사흘 동안의 진영 생활 중 에스라는 백성과 제사장들을 세심히 살피다가 그들 가운데 레위인이 없다는 사실을 깨닫고, 질서정연한 출발 준비 한가운데서도 깊은 우려의 순간을 맞는다.
