Description
Ezra is collapsed in grief before the house of God, praying, confessing, and weeping over the unfaithfulness of the returned exiles. Around him, a large crowd of Israelite men, women, and children gathers and joins him in bitter tears. In this charged moment of communal sorrow, Shekaniah steps forward with a surprising word of hope: though the people have sinned by marrying foreign women, there is still hope for Israel.
