Ezekiel 8 (vv. 16-18)

In the inner court of the temple, between the portico and the altar, about twenty-five men stand with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east. As the sun rises, they bow down in worship to it, turning away from the sanctuary behind them. The act is presented as the height of detestable rebellion, and the scene carries the weight of impending judgment as the LORD declares that he will respond in anger and not listen to their cries.
