Description
At the entrance of the north gate of the house of the LORD, Ezekiel sees women seated in ritual mourning for Tammuz. Their posture, gestures, and expressions of lament turn the gate of the LORD's house into a place of foreign devotion. The image is deeply tragic: grief is being offered to a fertility deity in the very place meant for worship of the living God.
