Ezekiel 31 (vv. 3-9)

Assyria is pictured as a towering cedar in Lebanon, rising above every other tree with vast branches and deep roots fed by abundant waters. Birds nest in its boughs, wild creatures shelter beneath it, and great nations dwell in its shade. The tree is so beautiful and exalted that even the trees of Eden seem to envy it, making this a vision of imperial splendor at its height.

앗수르는 레바논의 우뚝 솟은 백향목으로 묘사되며, 풍성한 물에 깊이 뿌리내려 모든 나무 위로 높이 치솟아 있다. 새들은 그 가지에 깃들고 들짐승들은 그 그늘 아래 머물며, 큰 나라들이 그 아래에서 안식을 얻는다. 그 나무는 너무도 아름답고 높아 에덴의 나무들조차 시기하는 듯 보이니, 이는 제국의 영광이 절정에 달한 환상을 보여준다.
