Ezekiel 24 (vv. 3-14)

Ezekiel proclaims the parable of the cooking pot: water is poured in, choice cuts of meat and bones are placed inside, wood is piled high, and the fire is kindled until the pot boils fiercely. The image becomes a symbol of Jerusalem, a bloodstained city whose corruption clings like thick encrustation to the vessel. Even when the pot is emptied and set directly on the coals until its copper glows, its impurity remains, showing that judgment has become unavoidable because cleansing was refused.

에스겔은 가마솥의 비유를 선포한다. 물을 붓고, 좋은 고기와 뼈를 넣고, 장작을 높이 쌓아 불을 지펴 가마솥이 맹렬히 끓게 한다. 이 장면은 피 흘린 성읍 예루살렘의 상징이 된다. 그 부패는 두꺼운 찌꺼기처럼 솥에 달라붙어 있다. 솥을 비운 뒤 숯불 위에 직접 올려 구리가 붉게 달아오를 때까지 달구어도 그 불순물이 사라지지 않으니, 이는 정결하게 하려 했으나 거부했기 때문에 이제 심판이 피할 수 없게 되었음을 보여 준다.
